Shoes

Over the years you casually take photos of things, and then put them to one side. They’re snapshots, throwaway images, random filler from projects, test shots, whatever. If you keep them, however, they sometimes form bodies of work without you even realising they’re there. This whole body of work, of which this selection of images is only a fraction, came about during one such review of my archive when I noticed I’d taken a couple of photos of abandoned shoes on the street. So, as I went through the work that time I tagged any image that featured a shoe either as its main focus, or that made up a decent part of a composition, enough that you could potentially see the shoes as a focal point. I ended up with over 2,000 images from 1998 to present day, but bear in mind the criteria for these shots is reaaaaaaally loose.
Shoes are fascinating objects in themselves and can tell you so much about a person.
